About this grant

This grant will support the Belgrade Fund for Political Excellence, a non-governmental nonpartisan school created to build and nurture democratic leadership in Serbia and Montenegro. The school’s goal is to consolidate democratic transformation in Serbia and Montenegro, and facilitate accession to the European Union (EU) and integration into Euro-Atlantic structures.Multiyear funding will enable the Belgrade Fund for Political Excellence to provide training and networking opportunities to existing and emerging political and civic leadership in Serbia and Montenegro. Activities will include conducting an annual series of seminars for elected officials, political leaders, media, business and the nonprofit sector; developing yearly thematic seminars targeted to particular groups, such as women and youth; and responding to current important topics facing the country by organizing ad hoc events and roundtables. The Belgrade Fund for Political Excellence was established in 2003 under the auspices of the Council of Europe, which has initiated similar schools in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, and Romania.
