About this grant
This grant will provide partial funding for Phase III of the Community Challenge, coordinated by the Community Foundation of Greater Flint in conjunction with the Flint Club. The purpose of the Community Challenge is to transform the way public decisionmaking is conducted in Genesee County by demonstrating the power of citizen involvement and developing new patterns of collaborative leadership.Phase I of the Community Challenge was launched in June 2003. Six community-wide meetings were held over the course of nine months involving several hundred participants to identify the issues the community felt were most important to its future. In June 2004, Phase II began with the formation of work groups around four priorities: Downtown Flint, Visual Change, Economic Development and Education. Formal leaders identified with each of these issues were recruited to serve as conveners of the groups. Hundreds of area residents worked with these groups to bring about some of the desired changes identified during Phase I.
