About this grant
During the past decade, welfare rolls have significantly declined in the U.S. Although many people have successfully made the transition to employment and self-sufficiency, a significant number remain on welfare. Funding will enable Flint Area Specialized Employment Services (FASES), in partnership with the Michigan Department of Human Services and the Department of Labor and Economic Growth, to test the effectiveness of using temporary employment and supportive services to transition persistent welfare clients in Flint and Genesee County to sustainable employment. The Alternative Staffing Partnership will provide a combination of skills training, remediation services and temporary employment to welfare clients. Corporation for a Skilled Workforce will conduct an evaluation of the program.FASES was established in 2001 to provide workforce training and job placement assistance to low-skilled workers in Genesee County.
