About this grant
This grant will enable Genesee County to provide technical assistance to five Michigan communities in implementing a model that encourages more efficient tax foreclosure and community development. In 2003, the Michigan Land Use Leadership Council was created to initiate bipartisan and multilateral dialogue about the causes and consequences of urban sprawl in Michigan. One of the council’s goals was to provide recommendations to promote revitalization and reinvestment in Michigan’s cities.Multiyear funding will support activities that include selecting five communities to participate in the technical assistance program; designing a customized technical assistance and training program for each participating community; providing each community with the plans and tools needed to improve its legal structure and create intergovernmental agreements, develop bylaws for a land bank authority, and create land-use planning and policy; and assisting each community to develop implementation budgets and locate sustainable funding and revenue streams.
