About this grant
The program goal is to support free and fair presidential elections in Ukraine. The National Democratic Institute for International Affairs will send 25 leaders of nongovernmental organizations from the former Soviet Union to observe the Ukrainian presidential election. The observers will be stationed in Ukraine for six weeks, allowing them to observe and report on the immediate pre-election period, election day on October 31, and the runoff expected on November 21. The linguistic and cultural familiarity of these observers with Ukraine and experience monitoring elections in their own countries will enable this group to make a unique and important contribution to reducing fraud in this critical Ukrainian election.
