About this grant
The National Council on Alcoholism and Addictions, Greater Flint Area provides services to Genesee County residents who are struggling with mental health and substance abuse disorders and have minimal or no health insurance coverage. Its mission is to reduce the incidence and prevalence of alcoholism and other drug addictions through education, proper diagnosis, ongoing recovery and relapse prevention.Funding will support current programs that include education for youth ages 18 to 25, intensive outpatient services, medical and public health services, group treatment, Michigan Health Professionals Recovery Group and education for the general population.The council, established in 1952 as a general information center on alcohol abuse, currently serves almost 900 individuals annually, including 193 youth, 98 percent of whom live in families with incomes below the federal poverty level.
