About this grant

This grant will enable the Foundation for the Uptown Reinvestment Corporation to continue supporting redevelopment efforts in downtown Flint. The Uptown Reinvestment Corporation has played a major role in efforts to revitalize downtown Flint, and is currently involved in launching the first loft-style apartment development. Funding will provide support to the First Street Lofts project, located in the Republic Bank building at the corners of S. Saginaw and First streets in the center of downtown. The building’s historic appearance will be restored and 14 to 19 loft apartments will be constructed on the third through seventh floors. The goal of the project is to attract people interested in living downtown, including college students and young professionals. The Foundation for the Uptown Reinvestment Corporation was created in 2004 to receive and administer funds for charitable purposes, and for the public welfare of Genesee County, including support for the Uptown Reinvestment Corporation.
