About this grant
This grant will enable Cambridge College to plan and host a national conference on community building. For more than two decades, researchers have collected experiences and knowledge about community building and social capital. In order to assess what has been learned, practitioners and researchers decided to organize a National Invitational Conference on Community Building (NICCB). Funding will enable NICCB to provide a forum and opportunity for community change leaders to analyze the experience of community building and make recommendations on how to strengthen community building as a field of work and study. Conference goals include exploring the historical development, current status and future prospects of the field of community building; assessing critical developments and/or needs in the areas of research, policy and practice; promoting a set of approaches to community involvement and social change; and disseminating the results of the conference.Cambridge College, founded in 1971, offers a master’s degree in teaching with an emphasis on urban schools.
