About this grant

This grant will support the efforts of the Citizens Research Council of Michigan to identify fiscal problems facing local governments in Michigan as well as potential opportunities for local governments to share service costs. Currently, older Michigan cities and suburbs, in particular, are dealing with declining incomes while the cost of providing services has increased. Funding will enable the council to conduct a detailed analysis of the impact of revenue constraints and reductions on local governments; develop a catalog of services provided by local governments in several Michigan counties to determine how local services could be effectively shared; and produce an assessment to promote action at the state and local levels to address these pressures. The Citizens Research Council of Michigan, established in 1916, is a nonprofit research organization that analyzes issues relating to state and local government organization and finance in Michigan.
