About this grant

The Strategic Press Information Network (SPIN) Project is a project of the Independent Media Institute, providing accessible and affordable communications services to community organizing groups. Recently, the project has received requests from community-organizing groups to make the training more relevant to their needs. This grant will support a SPIN Academy, an advanced communications training retreat developed by the SPIN Project.Multiyear funding will enable the project to modify elements of the SPIN Academy, with an increased emphasis on understanding the frames within which messages are heard and understood by the public; and on messages that more effectively communicate the organizations’ goals. In addition, more customized conferences and training opportunities will be created and offered twice per year. The goal of the Independent Media Institute is to empower people with independent journalism, information and media tools to change the world.
