About this grant
This grant will enable the Shuttleworth Foundation Trust to create funding models that will build the financial sustainability of the nonprofit sector in South Africa. Although nonprofits play a vital role in social and economic development, they often struggle to raise funds for their work. Exploring different funding techniques will contribute to the long-term sustainability of the South African nonprofit sector.Funding will support a capacity-building program; a learning and performance management system for nonprofits; and an international seminar on social investment markets and social investment exchange in the developing world. The "Innovation Bazaar" is its flagship program that brings investors and nonprofits together in a "market place" to buy and sell projects. The Shuttleworth Foundation Trust was created in 2001 by Mark Shuttleworth, one of South Africa’s leading young entrepreneurs who has made most of his fortune in the computer and information technology industry.
