About this grant

This grant will support Faces of the Fallen, an organization dedicated to honoring U.S. service men and women who have died in Afghanistan and Iraq. Inspired by Annette Polan, artist and professor, the project will use the power of art to recognize the sacrifice of soldiers and their families through a portrait exhibition of soldiers who gave their lives. Funding will enable Faces of the Fallen to organize the display, set to open at the Arlington National Cemetery Memorial Foundation for Women in Military Service in the spring of 2005, followed by a regional travel exhibition throughout the United States. Currently, more than 120 painters are working on portraits, which will be offered to the families after the project is completed. Faces of the Fallen was founded in 2004 to promote and develop the arts. Annette Polan is a professor of art who has specialized in portraiture at Corcoran College of Art and Design for 25 years.
