About this grant

This grant will support the planning phase of an evaluation of the impact and legacy of the Mott Foundation’s Community Foundations and Neighborhoods Small Grants Program. The Mott program of the 1980s and early 1990s evolved into the Neighborhood Small Grants Network, a project of the Cleveland Foundation.Funding will support activities that include reconnecting with all 25 community foundations that participated in the Mott program and gathering basic information on their subsequent neighborhood work; identifying foundations that started neighborhood small grants programs after the Mott program ended; convening a planning committee of community foundation experts to oversee and guide the project; developing questions that the evaluation will address for Mott, the network and the broader philanthropic community; and drafting a proposal for the next phase, the evaluation, and selecting an evaluator. The Cleveland Foundation, established in 1914, was the first community foundation in the U.S.
