About this grant
In the wake of civil disturbances in Benton Harbor, Michigan in the summer of 2003, Governor Jennifer Granholm appointed a task force to develop strategies that address the underlying problems of poverty and joblessness in this high-unemployment community. Following a year of discussion and analysis, the Benton Harbor Task Force identified job training programs for young men as the highest priority in the community. As a result, East Harlem Employment Service, Inc., has been asked by the Benton Harbor Task Force to plan, develop, and implement a STRIVE program in Benton Harbor. This renewal grant will support the continued development and implementation of the STRIVE program.
