About this grant
The program goal is to promote public participation in decisionmaking and community development through targeted grantmaking and support for community-based action. The grantee is a national-level, Bosnian foundation established in 2000 and based in Sarajevo. In 2013-2014, the Mozaik Community Development Foundation will use grantmaking, research, capacity building, social enterprise development, and advocacy to improve the conditions for local-level development across Bosnia-Herzegovina. Particular emphasis will be given to youth social entrepreneurism. The grantee will also build its endowment through local and international fundraising initiatives. In 2011-2012, the grantee supported 550 community initiatives with small grants totaling over $1 million, and these initiatives leveraged significant financial and in-kind contributions locally. The grantee also strengthened its wholly owned social enterprise, which employs 20 full-time and over 120 seasonal workers, many of whom were previously unemployed women living in rural communities. Additionally, the grantee scaled up the successful YouthBank model to more than 30 municipalities.
