About this grant

Friends of the Earth – Center for Environmental Public Advocacy (FoE – CEPA) was established to continue CEPA’s Sustainable Economy Program. Its goal is to encourage Slovak citizens and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to participate in decisionmaking processes that promote sustainable economic development.Multiyear funding will enable the organization to pursue objectives that include advocating for new government policies that ensure public interest when providing subsidies to corporate investors; improving the effectiveness and accountability of privatized public services; protecting the environmental, human and property rights of individuals and small communities affected by corporate operations; encouraging effective control over the operations of international financial institutions in Slovakia and the fair and sustainable use of European Union structural and cohesion funds; promoting sustainable alternatives in selected sectors; implementing projects in marginalized regions that target agriculture, renewable natural resources and public transportation; and strengthening cooperation with partner NGO/groups within Friends of the Earth – Slovakia.CEPA was created in 1992 to promote sustainable development and social change in Slovakia. In late 2004, FoE-CEPA was registered as the legal successor of CEPA’s Sustainable Economy Program.
