About this grant
The program goal is to engage young people in political processes and civic activism in order to promote and strengthen the rule of law, accountability, and transitional justice in Serbia and the Western Balkan region. Through a variety of activities, Youth Initiative for Human Rights will focus on building the capacity of young people to address these issues and on increasing dialogue among young people from all sides of the conflicts in the former Yugoslavia. Over the past two years, the grantee played a leadership role in the regional coalition to establish a victims’ commission for the former Yugoslavia by coordinating a successful regional campaign to collect over 500,000 signatures in support of the commission. The grantee also organized the annual Days of Sarajevo event in Belgrade, which increases connections between young people in these two cities, exchanges between youth in Kosovo and Serbia, training programs on human rights and democratic values for young people, and a young leaders and activists forum. The grantee is based in Belgrade and works throughout the country.
