About this grant

In Southeast Europe, as in many regions undergoing transition, young people are the key to the future. Unfortunately, many talented young people from Southeast Europe immigrate to the West for better education, higher standards of living and more rewarding job opportunities. However, the transitional nature of the region’s emerging democracies actually offers substantial opportunities for involvement by young people in many areas. To address this, the Transfuse Association implemented a young leadership development program from 1998 to 2000.Multiyear funding will support the association’s annual conferences in 2005 and 2006, through which the program nurtures young leaders from across the region; fosters dialogue and cooperation; and creates sound policy alternatives to the region’s most critical challenges. The Transfuse Association is an action-oriented network of young professionals in Southeast Europe developed to help bridge the gap between the priorities of policymakers and the needs of the general public throughout the region.
