About this grant
This grant will enable the University of Michigan (U-M) to build a new C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor, replacing the one built nearly 40 years ago. The new hospital will provide needed space for recent medical advancements and support future changes to the world of science and medicine.Funding will support construction of a new pediatric specialty ambulatory care center, the Women’s Hospital Birthing Center, the Childhood Cancer and Bone Marrow Transplant centers, a congenital heart center and a dedicated pediatric emergency department. The new facility, to be located south of the A. Alfred Taubman Health Center, will encompass 712,710 square feet. Increased inpatient capacity and clinic space will provide sick and injured children everywhere greater access to health services. Currently, the C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital at U-M provides comprehensive specialized services for sick and injured children from around the world. In 1965, Mott awarded $6.5 million to the university for construction of the children’s hospital and an additional $2 million in 1984 for renovations.
