About this grant
This grant will support efforts by Step by Step Moldova to create an effective community development model in Moldova by establishing partnerships between schools and communities. Since its independence in 1991, Moldova has experienced the harshest and longest economic decline among the transition economies. In order to change the economic situation in rural Moldova for the better, it is crucial to build social capital, stimulate community resources and help citizens improve their own quality of life through civic participation.Multiyear funding will enable the organization to transform schools, mainly rural, into advocates for community development; build school-community partnerships for sustainable community development; promote the concept of community education; and encourage networking among community schools.Step by Step Moldova was established in 1994 to implement an education reform program that introduces child-centered teaching methods and support community and family participation in preschool and primary school.
