About this grant
Despite the existence of democratic institutions in Russia, there is still a need to encourage democratic tradition within both government and society. The Moscow School of Political Studies (MSPS) was created to support the emergence of a new political culture in Russia that is conducive to participatory democracy. Its mission is to contribute to the building of an open, democratic society based on respect for the rule of law, observance of human rights and the encouragement of civic initiative.Multiyear funding will enable the school to promote democracy and civil society in Russia through seminars, publications, a Web site and an alumni association. Seminars serve as the core program and each student must participate in a series of seminars to graduate. MSPS publications include a book series, a booklet and pamphlet series, a quarterly magazine, a quarterly magazine in English, and a quarterly newsletter. The Web site facilitates communications within the school’s network of alumni and provides information to the public. The alumni association strengthens contacts between alumni, organizes continuing education and raises funds.MSPS was established in 1992 with support from the Council of Europe.
