About this grant

This grant will contribute to efforts to support the North End Soup Kitchen, a project of the Catholic Charities of Shiawassee and Genesee Counties. Catholic Charities provides intervention services to individuals and families in need. Most of its services are offered at two locations in Flint – the North End Soup Kitchen and Holy Angels Convent. In 2004, the Catholic Charities launched a $1.7-million capital campaign to update and renovate these facilities as well as administrative offices. To date, more than $1.3 million has been raised. Funding will provide a match to a $250,000 Kresge challenge to the Building a Foundation of Hope campaign, designated for capital improvements, including new roofs for the North End Soup Kitchen and Holy Angels Convent. Catholic Charities of Shiawassee and Genesee Counties has been providing assistance to families for more than six decades. First organized by the League of Catholic Women as a volunteer group, it now provides comprehensive health and human services to more than 29,000 individuals and families each year.
