About this grant

For more than three decades, the National Employment Law Project (NELP) has been working to address the employment needs of low-wage workers. The project was established in response to a surge of employment-related questions being asked by legal services attorneys concerning full-time workers who were not earning enough to pull their families out of poverty; were being denied spaces in education and job-training programs; or, were being funneled into low-wage jobs instead of being trained for and placed into higher-skill, higher-wage work.Multiyear funding will enable NELP to pursue goals that include expanding the unemployment safety net for low-income families; promoting state-level policies that support new immigrants; and providing research and analysis to the state attorneys general for enforcement of workplace protections.NELP’s mission is to improve the lives of the working poor and unemployed by expanding their employment rights and access to support systems such as unemployment compensation and job training programs.
