About this grant

In Russia, community schools have proven to be an effective way to engage citizens in community life. The Russian community school model encourages partnerships between the school and the community, promotes volunteerism and calls for the democratization of schools through more participatory governance, civic education and interactive teaching methods.Multiyear funding will enable the New Eurasia Foundation to launch a program providing grants to several community-school development support centers that have been established in various regions of Russia. The program also will provide a platform for networking and information exchange among leading Russian community school experts and practitioners and connect them with international community education experts. Specific objectives include conducting a baseline assessment of the community-school movement in Russia; designing a grants competition and request for proposals; and organizing a final conference for project participants and other stakeholders. The mission of the New Eurasia Foundation is to preserve and strengthen civil society in Russia and promote the country’s integration into the world community.
