About this grant
The program goal is to promote civic awareness and activism in Russia’s smaller urban centers as well as to transfer to those communities the knowledge and skills related to defending public interests and people’s rights. The Perm Civic Chamber will conduct "civic expeditions" to seven small cities and towns in four regions of Russia. Visiting participants will conduct training seminars, exhibitions, public discussions, lectures, press conferences, and meetings with a broad variety of local people, organizations, and institutions to heighten local inhabitants’ abilities to address civic issues. The main focus will be on communities where civic activism is muted, but where demonstrated potential exists, in order to demonstrate possible approaches to fostering participation in difficult contexts. In recent years, the grantee and its partners have undertaken over 60 expeditions throughout Perm and neighboring regions. Founded in 1996, the Perm Civic Chamber’s mission is to provide informational, organizational, legal, and technical support to civil initiatives in the Perm region and other regions of Russia.
