About this grant
The program goal is to promote civic awareness and activism in Russia’s smaller urban centers. The Perm Civic Chamber will gather information on successful civil control activities from across Russia. The grantee will conduct civic expeditions to two small cities within the Perm region, conducting workshops on how to adopt these successful strategies. These will be supplemented by further seminars in the city of Perm, which will also target government officials, including the regional human rights ombudsman, in order to generate a greater understanding of civil control methods. In 2008-2009 the grantee and its partners conducted civic expeditions in four communities in Perm and neighboring regions. The grantee also began to document and disseminate examples of effective civic activism in order to support the ongoing growth of independent civic activity. Founded in 1996, the Perm Civic Chamber’s mission is to provide informational, organizational, legal, and technical support to civil initiatives in the Perm region and throughout Russia.
