About this grant
This grant will enable the National Association of Workforce Boards to develop a comprehensive technical assistance and capacity improvement program for Workforce Investment Boards across the U.S. The federal Workforce Investment Act (WIA), passed in 1998, requires that business-led Workforce Investment Boards be established in local communities to oversee the expenditure of WIA funds and to create local workforce development systems.Funding will support the development of the Institute for Innovation in Workforce Policy to increase business-centered innovations and leadership for the Workforce Investment Boards. The goal of the institute is to stimulate new, strategic solutions for increasing the capacity of communities to train and retrain qualified workers, and expand employment in high-wage, high-growth job sectors. The National Association of Workforce Boards represents more than 600 workforce boards nationwide. It supports and promotes the work of its members through a comprehensive program of advocacy, technical assistance and communications activities.
