About this grant
This grant will enable the National Congress for Community Economic Development to address the regional shortage of community development corporations (CDCs) in the southeastern U.S. by working to increase the number of CDCs in South Carolina and Florida, and building the capacity of those in existence.Funding will support objectives that include reviewing the funding, political and community dynamics of South Carolina, and developing an appropriate plan of action; working with the South Carolina Department of Commerce to increase support for CDCs in the state; connecting state associations in Massachusetts and New Jersey with the South Carolina association to provide peer-to-peer technical assistance; assisting in the development of a policy agenda to increase financial support for South Carolina CDCs; assessing the needs of CDCs in the southern part of Florida, and the current level of state support; and analyzing the results from this initiative to develop an expanded effort in Florida and similar programs for additional states in the Southeast.The National Congress for Community Economic Development is the national trade association representing more than 3,600 CDCs. It supports CDCs through advocacy, research, special projects, technical assistance, fundraising and training.
