About this grant

The goal of the Human Rights Research and Advocacy in Russia, Ukraine and Belarus project is to strengthen the protection of human rights in those three countries where such abuses abound. Allowed to continue with impunity, these atrocities create an atmosphere of powerlessness that impedes the development of civil society.Multiyear funding will support the efforts of Human Rights Watch to improve human rights protection in specific areas of greatest concern in each country. Activities will include conducting timely and accurate investigations; issuing analytical reports; making policy recommendations; and generating domestic and international public pressure on the Russian, Belarusian and Ukrainian governments.Human Rights Watch, established in 1988, is the largest human rights organization based in the U.S., with offices in New York, Brussels, London, Moscow, Hong Kong, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C.
