About this grant

Red Ink Studios is an underground artist movement whose mission is to develop places for local artists to create new bodies of work by converting underutilized buildings into free studio space. Funding will support Genesee Area Focus Council’s efforts to replicate the Red Ink model in Flint through negotiation of a one-year lease for a vacant, unused building in Flint; construction and insuring of temporary artist studios in the vacant building; recruitment of 15 to 20 local and regional artists through a "Call for Artists" advertising campaign; and marketing and promotion of the Red Ink artists and their works. The council is a consortium of nonprofit, education and business leaders with a focus on economic development issues that affect the competitive economy and quality of life in Genesee County.
