About this grant

South African History Online is a live Web site committed to promoting and popularizing the study of South African history and culture that challenges and corrects the distortions and biases of the country’s colonial and apartheid past. Its main activities include developing history curricula for high school students, and conducting research and making available online the history of the country, particularly the history of the struggle for liberation. The site is widely accessed, and the curriculum developed has been adopted in some schools as part of the history curriculum. Mott provided support to enhance the capacity of the staff, strengthen the research capacity, develop and update the schools’ curriculum, and expand the Web site and widen its reach. This grant will continue to support South African History Online for its work directed at producing an objective and inclusive account of South Africa’s past, which contributes to building a just and nonracial society.
