About this grant
The Trust for Community Outreach and Education is an affiliate organization that works with mainly rural communities in various provinces throughout South Africa in the areas of local governance and land acquisition. Mott supported it to work with its affiliate in the Eastern Cape, the Cala University Students Association, to ensure that communities understand their rights and participate in local government decisionmaking processes that affect their lives. This grant will continue to support this work to assist, in particular, on mobilizing and organizing rural communities in the Sakhisizwe municipality in the Eastern Cape province to demand better service delivery from the municipality, especially in the provision of basic services like water, sanitation, and electricity. The grant will also support efforts to ensure that the municipality engages communities when developing municipal plans and budgets in order to facilitate the improved provision of basic services by the local municipality.
