About this grant
In KwaZulu-Natal – one of the three poorest provinces in South Africa – the majority of the population lives in rural and informal areas and struggles to gain access to basic services, including legal representation. Community resource centers were created to ensure that these communities know and understand their rights and are able to access them. Ithembalabantu Community Resource Centres is a coalition of seven community resource centers in the province that provide free paralegal advice on various issues.Multiyear funding will enable Ithembalabantu to build the capacity of member centers; increase the number of people benefiting from the services of the seven centers; help communities work with the government to ensure that services are delivered; monitor the government’s performance; and mobilize resources to ensure that member centers remain sustainable.
