About this grant

The Community Law Centre at the University of the Western Cape works in the areas of decentralization and democratic governance, specifically focusing on provincial constitutions, intergovernmental relations, and local government. The grantee works to strengthen the local sphere of government to be more efficient in the delivery of services by enhancing its understanding of its mandate and the legal framework of local governance. The Community Law Centre also supported the production and publication of the Local Government Bulletin, which is used to disseminate good practices on cooperative governance between the national, provincial, and local spheres of government and to keep local councilors and officials informed about legal and policy developments in topical and relevant areas. This grant will support the Community Law Centre to strengthen cooperative government between local government and other spheres of government and to provide hands-on support to local governments to understand and meet the demands of cooperative government.
