About this grant
The local government project of the Community Law Centre, located at the University of the Western Cape, focuses on providing research, advice, education, and training around issues of government decentralization, governance practices at the local municipal and provincial levels, and intergovernmental relations. The goal is to promote and strengthen local government for democracy and development. Past activities include conducting research on issues relevant to decentralization and local governance and disseminating the results through publications. The center has also hosted training workshops, seminars, and conferences, and has undertaken consultancies for various local governments and the national department responsible for coordinating local governments and intergovernmental relations. Over the last few years, the project has expanded to work in various countries across the African continent on issues of decentralization, peace, and security. This grant will support the continuation of these research activities and the provision of technical assistance to local and provincial governmental entities and civil society organizations interacting with local municipalities.
