About this grant
The University of the Western Cape was established in 1960 to serve the colored population of the Western Cape Province in South Africa. The multilevel government initiative is a project of the Community Law Centre at the university to support governments, scholars, and civil society to research, design, and implement systems of multilevel government and the rule of law in South Africa. It strengthens national, provincial, and local government through targeted and evidence-based interventions. Past support has enabled the center to provide policy and technical advice to the government on issues related to governance. This grant will enable the center to continue to provide support to government and to conduct studies to measure the frequency of service delivery protests and the levels of compliance with legislative norms by provincial and local governments. The center will also improve available tools for gathering data on multilevel government and make information available through public lectures, seminars, and workshops.
