About this grant

The Dioceses of Oudtshorn, Cape Town, Keimos, Upington, and De Aar, mainly rural towns in the Western and Northern Cape, came together to establish a rural development agency — DOCKDA Rural Development Agency — to serve as a conduit for funding small projects in these rural areas. Mott provided support to develop and strengthen it as an indigenous, intermediary grantmaker to fund rural development organizations in these poor and marginalized communities. With Mott’s support, DOCKDA Rural Development Agency has been able to enhance its development role, providing funding, capacity building, monitoring, and support to community-based organizations in many of the poorest rural areas in the country. Mott’s renewal grant will continue to support the general operational, institutional, and staff costs of the organization, as it works to find ways to assist rural communities to become more empowered and self-reliant.
