About this grant
DOCKDA Rural Development Agency is an intermediary grantmaker that supports rural development organizations in poor, marginalized communities in the Northern Cape province of South Africa. Over the past two years, the grantee developed a program to strengthen community responses to various development challenges, in particular, the AIDS epidemic, in the rural areas of the Northern Cape province. It strengthened leadership and worked in collaboration with leaders from community-based organizations to ensure that the interventions were relevant for the needs of the communities served. This grant will continue to provide general purpose support to the grantee. The main activities over the next two years will include grantmaking to organizations that facilitate programs on gender equality; promoting health and wellness within target communities; and mentoring small community-based organizations that provide home-based care to terminally ill patients, particularly those with AIDS.
