About this grant
Rural poverty is one of the major challenges facing South Africa today. In addition, rural areas are being hit hardest by the HIV/AIDS pandemic. In recognition of the challenges that the rural areas pose for building meaningful democracy, the government created the Sustainable Rural Development Strategy, which focuses on combating poverty and promoting development in the rural areas.Multiyear funding will enable DOCKDA (Dioceses of Oudtshorn, Cape Town, Keimos, Upington and De Aar) Rural Development Agency to strengthen the infrastructure of rural organizations and ensure that donor funds reach the poor. The agency will assist organizations working in the areas of human rights, HIV/AIDS, farm workers, gender and early childhood development.DOCKDA is a nonprofit, grantmaker that mainly operates in the Western, Northern and Eastern Cape regions of South Africa.
