About this grant
In terms of development opportunities, the West Coast region of the Western Cape lags behind Cape Town due to its isolation and relative distance from the urban center. In addition, the region is plagued by poverty and other serious social ills such as alcoholism, teenage pregnancy, domestic violence and HIV/AIDS. A community foundation that is able to mobilize resources for development and provide capacity building and training for the communities making up the region should greatly improve the quality of life for residents.Multiyear funding will provide support to the West Coast Community Foundation, enabling it to contribute to the building of a stable and prosperous society; establish a permanent endowment fund to support communities addressing poverty alleviation; identify successful, sustainable projects to eliminate poverty; and promote community saving for community projects. The foundation also will offer capacity building and training for community organizations to help them become more effective in raising funds and implementing their programs. The West Coast Community Foundation was created to encourage philanthropy and mobilize resources for the communities of the West Coast region of the Western Cape.
