About this grant
The goal of the Open Society Foundation – Ukraine is to promote public participation in government decisionmaking. The increasing number of Ukrainian citizens who want to participate and have a voice in government decisionmaking has created an opportunity for developing and supporting various policy, advocacy, watchdog and rights defense groups.Multiyear funding will enable the organization to monitor legislative and lobbying activities; report on the activities of members of local governments; launch a budget transparency campaign in 10 regions; advocate for constitutional reform; and conduct at least 10 regional seminars to train local precinct elections commissioners and official observers in advance of the March 2006 parliamentary and local elections. The Open Society Foundation – Ukraine was established in 2001 to encourage participatory democracy and open society in Ukraine by involving voters and their organizations in the political process.
