About this grant

In light of the recent presidential election in Ukraine, new mechanisms for policymaking need to be established in order to create a steady dialogue between government, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and the public. For this dialogue to be meaningful, NGOs must strive to ensure that citizens are involved in the process of democratization and the performance of the new government.Multiyear funding will enable the Europe XXI Foundation to continue its long-term project Engaging Civil Society in Policymaking; and promote awareness among Ukrainian NGO and media representatives of the models of public participation in the European Union (EU) and the U.S. Activities will include participating in governance monitoring projects and election monitoring coalitions; working to ensure access to information; disseminating information about elections, public participation, government and political party monitoring, NGO project implementation and civic initiatives; managing an exchange program to bring Ukrainian local government officials, NGO representatives and journalists from small towns to new EU member states; maintaining the Civil Society and European Integration Information Center; and participating in the U.S.-Ukraine Policy Dialogue Exchange Program. The Europe XII Foundation, established in 1998, promotes the democratic transformation of Ukraine’s society and politics into the European and Euro-Atlantic community.
