About this grant
The Participative Development Initiative (PDI) promotes sustainable development by working to strengthen the institutional capacity of community structures and build local economies as a method of alleviating poverty. This grant will enable PDI to provide selected communities in KwaZulu-Natal with the opportunity to address some of their challenges in a participatory and inclusive manner. Target groups will include community-based organizations and community representatives with a strong focus on the involvement of women and other vulnerable groups.Multiyear funding will support activities including collecting and recording baseline data for the target wards; developing strategic interventions for needs identified by each target ward; helping target communities create processes for consulting and participating in local government; and building the capacity of target groups by implementing structures to manage their projects and preparing project sustainability plans.PDI, established in 1998, is an independent non-governmental organization.
