About this grant
The reemergence of community schools in many areas of the country and the growth of the afterschool movement nationally has placed community education at a critical juncture in its efforts to strategically link schools and communities. This grant will support a national discussion on the future of community education.Funding will enable the National Community Education Association (NCEA) to bring together organizations such as the National Center for Community Education, the Coalition for Community Schools and the Afterschool Alliance to examine their collective vision and explore ways to work together more effectively. This effort will help NCEA to clarify its vision for community education in the 21st century. Between 40 and 50 participants are expected to take part in the conversation.NCEA was established in 1966 to support and advance community involvement in public education; interagency cooperation to address community needs; and learning opportunities in the community for residents of all ages, economic status and educational background.
