About this grant

“After-School Programs & The K-8 Principal: Standards for Quality School-Age Child Care” was originally published in 1993. Since then, demands for afterschool programs and expectations regarding the quality and nature of these programs have greatly increased. Likewise, demands and expectations facing school principals have grown. Multiyear funding will enable the National Association of Elementary School Principals Foundation (NAESP) to update, publish and disseminate a third edition of the publication. Activities will include conducting a review of the field of afterschool research; interviewing eight to 10 key leaders, researchers and principals in the afterschool field about the role of principals in afterschool; developing standards for principals as leaders in afterschool; building resources to support the revised update; and soliciting input from a wide range of stakeholders. NAESP serves more than 28,500 elementary and middle-school principals and educators across the U.S., Canada and overseas. It believes that the development of quality education in each school depends on the expertise, dedication and leadership of its principal.
