About this grant

This grant provides continued support to the George Lucas Educational Foundation to create practical tools for implementing the five elements outlined in the Mott-funded Time, Learning, and Afterschool Task Force report, "A New Day for Learning". These elements include expanding the definition of student success, using research-based knowledge about how students learn best, fostering collaboration, integrating various learning approaches and places, and providing new opportunities for leadership and professional development. Using a multimedia approach, this project will capture promising practices inside innovative schools and learning environments around the country, and develop practice tools that will allow teachers, administrators, afterschool stakeholders, and other interested parties to gain a better understanding of the steps needed to make the most use of school and community resources. This project will also add knowledge to the field by providing detailed information and tips on improving schools and will continue the development of Web-based materials that share tools for change.
