About this grant

This renewal grant will provide funds for the University of Massachusetts-Boston to conduct the third and final year of the Alternative Staffing Field Documentation Study. As the temporary employment services sector increasingly serves as a point of entry to employment for disadvantaged jobseekers, several nonprofit workforce development organizations have developed alternative staffing organizations. These nonprofit services provide temporary employment opportunities while simultaneously addressing the clients’ barriers to employment. The University of Massachusetts-Boston is partnering with Public/Private Ventures to conduct a documentation study of four Foundation-funded alternative staffing organizations. The study will provide data and information necessary to advance workforce development policy and practice around alternative staffing programs.
