About this grant

The aim of Caring to Change, a project of the Aspen Institute, is to promote fresh thinking about how foundations can achieve social change by drawing on the wisdom and experience of nonprofit and foundation staff not usually involved in strategy development. Project activities and outputs will include: interviews and small group discussions with about 200 nonprofit leaders and foundation staff (with a positive overrepresentation of younger people and people of color); publications and presentations based on developing ideas regarding changes in philanthropic strategies; a retreat of about 25 senior philanthropic leaders to deliberate new foundation strategies to promote social change; a peer support group of funders applying the new strategies; status reports on resultant new foundation initiatives; a final report and comprehensive presentation package that recapitulates project ideas; and web-based and other mechanisms for broader continuing discussion.
