About this grant
This grant to Mott Community College will provide support for the second cohort of students participating in the Smart Teachers as Role Models Initiative. The program provides leadership development curriculum for students in the teacher education programs at Mott Community College, Baker College, and University of Michigan-Flint to address the scarcity of African-American male teachers in the elementary and secondary schools of Flint and Genesee County. The program is part of a larger national replication effort, based on the Call Me MISTER program, also funded by the Foundation, to provide educational support and assistance to male students of color pursuing a career in K-12 education.
