About this grant
Based on the Call Me Mister program at Clemson University, Smart Teachers as Role Models (STAR) Initiative is a Flint replication of the Clemson model, which was designed to increase the number of African-American and Latino male teachers in urban districts. In its seventh year, the program is a collaboration between Baker College, Mott Community College, and University of Michigan-Flint. Using a cohort model, it is designed to teach specific educational strategies, career planning, and classroom management which will enable the participants to become model teachers and administrators in Flint area elementary and secondary schools.
